Wolverhampton Homes were in Whitmore Reans to hand an eviction notice to a resident in St Andrew's House.

However while there they noticed a pungent smell emanating from another flat in the Evan's Street block.

Suspecting that illegal drugs were being grown in the flat, they called police who duly raided the property.

Officers discovered 27 plants, which have since been destroyed.

Police are now trying to find out who rented the flat.

Wolverhampton Police tweeted: "Twenty-seven plants were found at a flat in Evan's Street block last week after staff from Wolverhampton Homes were on the way to evict another tenant.

"The pungent smell of cannabis greeted them, indicating it was being grown at another flat within the block.

"Officers raided the flat, recovered and destroyed the plants. Work continues to find out who rented the flat."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
