Parts of a large Ash tree next to the entrance of Stourbridge Junction train station had to be cut away last night following concerns they might fall on cars passing on the road underneath.

A team of tree surgeons were brought in at around 5pm to climb the tree and remove the dead branches using chainsaws, while members of Dudley Council's Highways Team closed parts of Glasshouse Hill, Brooke Road, Chawn Hill and Grange Road to allow the work to take place.

The temporary road closures caused minor disruptions for people trying to get home during the busy rush hour, but the road was quickly re-opened.

A spokesperson for London Midland made the following statement via Twitter: "Network Rail is about to commence the removal of a dangerous tree that may collapse imminently at Stourbridge.

"Both Glasshouse Hill and Brook Road, Oldwinsford, will be closed immediately to all traffic, between Oldswinford Cross and Grange Road."

A set of diversions were put in place to help ease congestion around the station.

None of the train routes into or out of Stourbridge Junction where affected by the work.
