More cats being abandoned in Staffordshire rented accommodation rise
Two cats are looking for a new home after being taken to a rescue centre.
Over the last two years, the founder of one cat rescue centre in South Staffordshire said she has seen a dramatic rise in pets being abandoned because their owners have moved into rented accommodation.
Fizzy and Lola have been left to the rescue centre due to the break up of a family which saw their owner move into accommodation where the landlord won't allow pets.
They have been taken in by Elaine Hutchinson, a foster carer for the rescue centre, until they can be find a home.
Jacqui Goucher, the founder of Central Cats Rescue, said: "The couple who owned them have divorced and the woman has moved into rented accommodation and their landlords won't allow pets.
"I'd say in the last two years, the number of people saying that they had to get rid of their cats because landlords won't allow them has gone up and up.
"I also get landlords come to us and say they have found cats in homes because people have just left them there."
She said the two cats needed to be rehomed together because they have been mates for a long time.
Miss Goucher said: "Lola who is the tabby is bombproof. She hasn't got a mark on her and is beautiful, there is no one who wouldn't want her.
"Fizzy is a little bit nervous and doesn't like to be picked up for too long, but when she settles down she will be fine.
"That's why we need to keep them together because they have been mates for a long time, and as soon as they get somewhere they can settle down they will be great.
"They're at just the right age, seven and eight, so they will be perfect for anyone who wants to take them on."
