Four injured after car hits wall in Bilston

Four people have been injured after a car smashed into a wall in Bilston this morning.

The accident, which happened at around 12.30am this morning, took place at the junction of Hunters Close and Darlaston Lane.

The driver of the car injured his head in the crash, which paramedics believe saw him hit the steering wheel and windscreen. He was then taken to New Cross Hospital.

Two other people in the car also had to be sent to hospital, after one suffered suspected pelvic, abdominal and chest injuries. The other patient had a minor head injury.

A fourth person had a minor eye injury, but did not require hospital treatment.

Crews were called to the smash after it was spotted by an ambulance on its way to hospital with a patient on board.

West Midlands Ambulance communications officer Claire Brown said: ""The collision caused significant damage to the car but, miraculously, all four occupants had managed to get out of the wreckage.

"Upon assessment, crews suspected that the driver had hit the steering wheel and windscreen in the collision. Ambulance staff treated the driver at the scene for a suspected head injury before he was conveyed to New Cross Hospital for further treatment.

"A second patient from the car suffered suspected pelvic, abdominal and chest injuries. They were treated and stabilised on scene before being immobilised with a neck collar, spinal board and pelvic splint and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

"A third patient suffered a minor head injury and they too were taken to New Cross Hospital for further checks.

"The fourth occupant sustained a minor eye injury but didn't require hospital treatment. They were left in the care of the police."
