Thousands of feet of underground pipes will be overhauled in Clent, near Stourbridge, by Severn Trent Water in the scheme.

Water pipes will be replaced in Woodman Lane and Oldnall Lane parts of the village. Works are expected to last for around six weeks.

Bosses from the water company today said they have written to residents in the village to explain the works and apologise over any disruption.

Severn Trent Water's programme manager Jonathan Tait today said part of the the roads will be closed off during the works.

"The water pipes in the area have been serving the community for many years, but they're getting old now and we've had a few leaks over the last few years," he said.

"We want to make sure our Stourbridge customers continue to enjoy a reliable supply of high quality drinking water, now and in the future.

"That's why we're being proactive and investing now to replace the pipes before it affects our customers' water supply."

He went on to say they had done everything they could to lessen the impact on residents in the village and said: "We will need to close part of Woodman Lane and Odnall Lane for a short time during the work, but we've done everything we can to minimise any disruption for local residents.

"We've written to everyone in the area to let them know what's going on, and our team are more than happy to help anyone who has any questions."

The work will be carried out on Severn Trent Water's behalf by contractors Amey.
