The 22-year-old victim required an operation in hospital following the assault by a group of four men in Kidderminster town centre.

The man was leaving Tribe nightclub in Green Street when he was confronted by the men, all thought to be in their teens, and then punched in the face.

Police are now appealing for witnesses as they attempt to catch the attackers.

Detective Constable Natalie Vaux said: "The victim and his friends were trying to avoid a confrontation when he was subjected to an unprovoked attack which left him with a serious injury.

"If anyone knows who was involved they should not hesitate to come forward with that information.

"We are gathering CCTV footage in the vicinity as part of our investigation and want to hear from anyone who saw this group of youths there that night or can help us to identify them."

Police say the victim came out of the nightclub with two friends between 2.15am and 2.30am on May 18.

They walked up New Road and were cutting across the Dunelm Mill car park on to Oxford Street when they were approached by the gang of men.

Two of them were white, one black and the other of mixed race.

The victim was punched in the face and tried to walk away.

They were then followed up Oxford Street in the direction of the ring road before the gang in the direction of the Wyre Forest Glades Leisure Centre in Bromsgrove Street.
