M6 lorry driver test results three times over drink-drive limit
A Belgian lorry driver on the M6 has been taken to hospital after a breath test indicated he was more than three times the legal drink-drive limit.
The driver had stopped at the side of the motorway near junction seven for Great Barr to use the SOS telephone for help as he claimed he was feeling unwell.
But when officers arrived to assist him, police said a strong smell of alcohol coming from the driver caused them to breathalyse him.
Central Motorways Policing Group (CMPG) say the driver's breath test gave a reading of 116. The legal drink-drive limit is just 35.
A spokesman for the CMPG said on Twitter: "Despite being over three times the drink drive limit, our main priority has to be his well-being so he will go to hospital for a thorough check."
