The A457 Sedgley Road East in Tipton was flooded when the 12in main leaked yesterday morning at 8.30am.

The force of the water coming out was so strong it pushed up large sections of pavements and swept debris down the road.

South Staffordshire Water said the road would remain closed. Three-way traffic lights have also been placed at the road junction with the A461 Dudley Port.

Spokesman Karen Baxter said: "The road will remain closed until at least the weekend and there is also traffic lights in operation."

The burst pipe also caused a cut in supply to the 45-acre Vaughan Trading Estate.
