The first, Cafe Cappella, has opened on the ground floor of the former Aspect Lighting premises in Gospel End Street in Sedgley.

It has been set up by Brian Chappell, of local business Signature Aromas, which is based in offices above.

He has recruited local chef Lee Cox to manage the new cafe which will open six days a week from 8am to 5pm.

The name is because the Italian for chapel is cappella.

Mr Chappell, who is an active member of neighbouring All Saints Parish Church, said the cafe and its garden area would also be open for use in the evening by local church and community organisations.

It will provide employment for about 20 people working part time and Mr Chappell also plans to offer work experience for local young people. He has received 120 applications for posts.

"We will be using as much locally sourced food as possible, even our coffee is coming from the Shropshire Coffee Company in Wolverhampton," added Mr Chappell.

The second cafe is currently being created at St Andrew's United Reformed and Methodist Church in Bilston Street.

The community cafe project involves the conversion of an area inside the church building into for use by isolated, older, disadvantaged and young people, as well as young families. It will have a disabled toilet and a kitchen.

The project is costing £166,788 and grants have come from Biffa(£50,000), The Veolia Environmental Trust (£38,863) and SITA Trust (£29,534).
