Body of man found near Staffordshire railway line

The body of a man was found near a railway line in Staffordshire.

Police and paramedics were called to Mill Meece, near Eccleshall, after reports a man had been hit by a train.

Officers are not treating the death as suspicious.

Trains travelling on the West Coast Main Line from Stafford to Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent were delayed by around 45 minutes from 7.45pm on Saturday.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "At 7.47pm on Saturday a report was received that the driver of the 18.55 Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston passenger train has reported striking a person in Staffordshire.

"British Transport Police and Staffordshire Police officers, together with paramedics attended and the body of a male person was found deceased at the scene.

"There are no suspicious circumstances and the coroner will be advised. The railway lines were closed until 9.16pm."
