Mother to walk in memory of son
A young mother whose seven-month-old son tragically died at home is walking a mile in his memory to help raise funds for charity.
Young Maison Amison suffocated on a nappy sack in 2013.
Today his mother Beth, aged 22, was walking with friends and family from Pye Green Community Centre in Hednesford to Hednesford Park.
Mrs Amison said: "I'll be joined on the walk by 10 to 20 people. When we get to the park we are hoping to release some balloons.
"I'm not a keen walker really but it's only about one mile."
Mrs Amison is doing the walk in aid of the Lullaby Trust, a charity that which provides expert advice on safer baby sleep and provides special support for bereaved families.
The tragedy happened in March last year at the family home in Lomax Road, Hednesford, after Mrs Amison fed Maison in the morning.
Less than two hours later she found the infant on his back with a plastic nappy bag across his face. He had managed to pull it through the railings of his cot. His father Martyn, 23, attempted to revive him with the kiss of life while Mrs Amison called the emergency service but Maison was later certified dead at Stafford Hospital.
South Staffordshire coroner Andrew Haigh gave the cause of death as nappy sack syndrome, a relatively rare occurrence.
Mrs Amison and her husband Martyn this year welcomed a new addition to the family after baby Taymer (CORR) was born 16 weeks ago.
Since Maison's death Mrs Amison has raised around £1,000 for the Lullaby Trust. She has organised fundraising quizzes and other events.
Last year she walked with friends and relatives from her home to Hednesford Park.
The walkers were setting off from the community centre at 11am.
Mrs Amison is hoping to raise more than £100 by doing the walk in her latest fundraising drive.
