Wolves chief gets go ahead for more homes
A property company chaired by Wolves chairman Steve Morgan has been given the go-ahead to expand a canalside housing development in a Black Country town.
Redrow Homes has been granted planning permission for a further 35 homes to be built next to its Chestnut Walk development off Bankfield Road in Bilston.
The first phase of the development, on a former iron and steel works next to the Birmingham Canal, is now complete, three years after it was officially launched by Mr Morgan and Wolves legend Steve Bull.
And members of Wolverhampton Council's planning committee granted consent for more houses and flats to be built on the opposite side of Greenway Road when they met yesterday afternoon.
The scheme will be for 16 two- and three-bedroom homes, and 19 one- and two-bedroom apartments with parking and landscaping.
A report before councillors said the owner of a neighbouring scrapyard had voiced concerns that prospective purchasers might not be aware of industrial land uses nearby.
Planning officer Jenny Davies said there was potential for noise nuisance coming from the scrapyard.
But she said the design of the development meant that the apartment block nearest the scrapyard would shield the rest of the development from the noise.
"Any noise disturbance to occupiers of the apartment block closest to the scrapyard could be mitigated against by the installation of non-opening windows, triple glazing, and obscurely glazed windows on the rear elevation."
