Stafford park to undergo £425k refurb
A £425,000 refurbishment of a popular park is starting on Monday.
Play facilities for young people at the Wildwood Park in Stafford are being improved by the borough council.
Work includes installing new toddler and junior play equipment, creating a multi-use games area for sports such as football and basketball, and a new concrete skate bowl.
The site off Wildwood Drive will also see trampolines and outdoor fitness equipment, as well as other existing facilities being refurbished.
The move follows a consultation last year in which hundreds of people gave feedback to the council and this helped create a master-plan for the proposed development of the area which is to be carried out by national play equipment specialists Wicksteed Leisure.
Head of leisure and culture at the borough council, Adam Hill, said: "This is a very exciting development which will really improve this popular park.
"We got lots of feedback from people who use the park and other residents and this has helped us shape our plans for Wildwood.
"It is only a few years ago that we officially opened the play area at Victoria Park and everyone is aware of what an enormous success that continues to be.
"This makes us very confident that the improvements we will be making to Wildwood will help attract more young people and families to enjoy this special area of the town."
Work is expected to last for up to four months. Sections of the park will be closed to the public while work is carried out.
The park also features a crazy golf course, football pitches and tennis courts.
Last year a £200,000 programme of improvements were carried out at Victoria Park in Stafford.
The Environment Agency spent three days improving the riverside pathways and replacing wooden edging along parts of the paths. Work was also carried out on the weirs to improve the passageways for the fish there.
The project was funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
