Inquest opens into death of Wolverhampton murder victim

An inquest was opened today into a woman allegedly murdered by her estranged husband.

Black Country senior coroner Robin Balmain released Kanwal Azam's body to be sent to family in Pakistan.

Ms Azam, aged 36, and from Ingleby Gardens in Whitmore Reans, Wolverhampton, was found dead at her home.

During the short hearing, coroner's officer Russ Williams said: "Ms Azam was discovered at home with multiple stab wounds."

He also said her estranged husband, Suhail Azam, of Newhampton Road East, had been charged with murder and remanded in custody.

The inquest was adjourned to await the outcome of court proceedings.
