Cleared expenses probe PC is found dead
A police officer whose travel expenses were formally investigated has been found dead - as it emerged he was to face no action.
Mick Chapman, who had been secretary of the Constables' Branch Board for the West Midlands Police Federation, died yesterday afternoon after being taken ill whilst on duty.
Pc Chapman was informed last month that he would not face misconduct proceedings after an inquiry found no criminal offences had been committed.
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "Our thoughts and sympathies are with Mick's family at this difficult time.
"Mick was a serving Pc and held a position within the West Midlands Police Federation at the time of his death.
"The force's Professional Standards Department dealt with an allegation into potential financial irregularities concerning his role with the Federation.
"This investigation concluded and there were no criminal offences and no misconduct issues to answer."
The Police Federation, which represents more than 120,000 rank-and-file officers, said in a statement: "Our deepest thoughts and condolences are with the family, friends and colleagues of Mick Chapman at this sad time."
