M6 four-vehicle crash closes motorway
The M6 had was closed this morning after a crash between two lorries and two cars.
Emergency services, inlcluding six paramedic crews and the air ambulance were called to the scene at just before 7.45am.
A man in his 20s, a lorry driver, had to be cut free by fire crews before being taken to hospital on a spinal board. He is thought to have suffered a broken leg, a broken wrist and a suspected fractured pelvis.
Two women in two of the cars were also taken to hospital. They are believed to have only minor injuries.
The accident took place just before 7.45am today on the southbound carriageway between junctions two and three for Coventry.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman, Chris Kowalik, said: "A man in his twenties who was one of the lorry drivers was trapped in his cab. He was freed with the help of the fire service. He had a broken leg, a broken wrist and a suspected fractured pelvis. A traction splint, pelvic bind and neck collar were applied, pain relief was given and he was immobilised on a spinal board before being taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire on blue lights. The hospital had been put on alert due to the seriousness of his injuries.
"Two women who were in the two cars involved in the collision were both taken to the same hospital with minor injuries.
"The other lorry driver was unhurt."
