Car and garage gutted in Kingswinford blaze
Sparks from a petrol powered disc cutter, which was being used by a teenager carrying out repairs on his car, set a garage alight.
The blaze broke out at the property in Ranleigh Avenue in Kingswinford at 1pm today.
Fire crews said an 18-year-old had been doing maintenance work on his car when sparks from the power tool caused the petrol to catch on fire.
The blaze quickly spread engulfing the whole of the brick garage but the teenager was able to escape uninjured.
He was treated for shock and smoke inhalation by an ambulance crew.
Brierley Hill watch commander Andrew Papworth said: "He was trying to remove some metal from his car. The disc cutter was powered by unleaded petrol. Sparks and petrol don't mix well and this caused the fire."
The garage was gutted, destroying the car. The nearby bungalow became smoke logged.
