Fire crews and paramedics were called to Gladstone Grove at around 11am. The driver, a man, had to be cut from the Ford Mondeo by firefighters and complained of pain in his back and head.

Paramedics treated him at the scene before he was taken to Dudley's Russells Hall Hospital on a spinal board for further checks, although his injuries were not believed to be serious.

A structural engineer had to be called in to check the garage was safe due to the damage caused by the smash.

Investigations are still being carried out into why the car came off the road.

Crew commander Aaron Halsgrove, of Dudley Fire Station, said: "From the information we have it appears the vehicle came off the road and went through the hedge of a house.

"It then crashed into the garage before coming to rest on the garden wall.

"We freed the driver from the car and he was taken to hospital."

He said the situation had now been left with the owner of the property.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "The man was complaining of pain to his back and head.

"He was immobilised on a spinal board.

"The air ambulance from Cosford was dispatched but the man was taken to hospital by land ambulance."
