Man appears in court after estranged wife stabbed to death in Wolverhampton
A man has appeared in court this morning accused of stabbing his estranged wife to death in her Wolverhampton home.
Suhail Azam, from Newhampton Road East in Whitmore Reans, is accused of attacking 35-year-old Kanwal Azam at an address in Ingelby Gardens on Saturday and leaving her with fatal knife wounds.
Police were called to the house at 3.20pm and, after forcing entry to the property, found the victim in the living room with multiple stab injuries.
A post mortem examination is due to take place later today to determine the precise cause of death.
Unemployed Azam, aged 54, was arrested by police near his home address at around 4.20pm. Police had sealed off a property near to where he was arrested.
After questioning by detectives, Azam was last night charged with murder and appeared before Wolverhampton Magistrates Court this morning.
He is due to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on April 2.
Police closed off a house in Ingleby Gardens after being called out on Saturday. The house was still sealed off on Sunday afternoon, with a car and children's toys left in the driveway.
Flowers had been left at the scene saying 'thinking of you'.
