Teenage girl seriously injured in Bilston crash

[gallery] A teenage girl suffered a serious head injury after being hit by a car on a busy road near Wolverhampton.

The 15-year-old's injuries were said to be 'very serious' by paramedics.

The incident happened on the Black Country Route, between Bilston Market and the town's Morrisons supermarket, at around 6pm on Saturday.

Two cars were strewn on one side of the carriageway, which was cordoned off for the rest of the evening.

Ambulance crews took the girl to Birmingham Children's Hospital.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman John Hawker said: "Crews arrived to find a girl that had been in a significant collision with a car.

"The teenager, believed to be 15 years old, suffered multiple injuries, including a serious head injury.

"The girl received emergency treatment at the scene and she was transferred by ambulance using blue lights and sirens to Birmingham Children's Hospital for further emergency treatment.

"Unfortunately, the girl's injuries were considered very serious."
