The first main burst near Rodbaston College on the A499 in Penkridge at around 8pm, with witnesses saying it left a large puddle of water on the road.

A second main burst at 12.30am.

A section of the road heading into Wolverhampton has been closed while engineers from South Staffs Water repair a burst PVC pipe.

The lane closure is expected to last into tomorrow.

Caroline Cooper, head of asset management for South Staffs Water, said: "There were a few isolated incidents of customers being left without supply as a result of the burst pipe, and some people were left with reduced pressure.

"These issues have now been resolved.

"We also took bottled water out to nursing homes in the area as a precaution.

"A section of the road is likely to remain closed until tomorrow (Mon) afternoon while workers attend to damage to a footpath next to the roadway."

Work to replace PVC piping on the stretch of the A449 between Penkridge and Four Ashes is set to start in early April. The work is set to last for 35 weeks.
