Start date in sight for revamp of Hednesford Park
Work on a raft of multi-million pound improvements will be carried out at a popular park within the next few months, it was announced today.
The pavilion at Hednesford Park is being extended to two-storeys featuring a community room, balcony and ground floor café.
A new skate park is also being created, as well as a new car park. Plans for the park will go on display to the public for the first time during a drop-in session on Thursday at the site.
The park was awarded £2.2million from the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2012 and the money is being used to fund the works.
Cannock Chase Council's principal landsape and countryside officer, Peter Scholes, said: "We've appointed an architect to design the pavilion.
"We will go out to tender at the start of June. Before that we'll be starting on the new car park.
"We are aiming to finish all of the works with 18 months to two years, obviously depending on the weather."
New footpaths are also being created as part of the project. The railings around the war memorial at the park will also be repaired. Tennis courts have already been rebuilt.
Councillor Christine Mitchell, culture chief, added: "The proposed works are part of major improvements being carried out to the park and war memorial following the award of £2.2 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2012.
"New tennis courts have already been installed and a raft of improvements will be taking place over the next few years.
"People can find out lots more about trees and the proposed works at the drop-in event."
The drop-in session runs from 11am to 8pm. Council staff will be on hand to explain the proposed works and answer questions.
