Cat killed and two dogs rescued in Brownhills fire
A cat has died and two dogs were rescued after a dishwasher caught fire this afternoon.
A heavily pregnant woman returned to her home in New Road, Brownhills, to find the property filled with smoke.
When fire crews arrived at about 12.45pm they found two collie dogs in the living room and carried them to safety. They were given oxygen to help their breathing.
The cat, which was also in the living room, had been overcome with smoke and died. Another cat had already escaped through a cat flap.
The woman was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Crew commander Rob Evans said: "There was extensive damage to the downstairs of the house.
"The lady had been confronted with a large quantity of smoke when she opened the front door and she called us immediately."
