Wednesfield pit bull owner taken to hospital after pet turned on him

A dog-walker was taken to hospital after his pet pit bull turned vicious and bit his leg repeatedly.

The 28-year-old man had been walking the dog, described as an American pit bull type, in Wednesfield when the animal struck yesterday.

Police were called to the junction of Frome Drive and Graiseley Lane at 7.45pm.

They grabbed the dog, which was off its leash, and took it to a secure enclosure.

West Midlands Police spokesman Billy Corrigan said: "The owner of the dog has been spoken to and he has handed the dog over to us, saying he doesn't want it anymore."

An ambulance took the man was to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton with multiple lacerations to his lower leg.
