Officers from the Central Motorway Policing Group were called to the island at the end of Manor Way, where the busy dual carriageway meets Junction 3 of the M5 motorway, at around 12.46pm today to reports of a lorry shedding its load.

When officers arrived they found that a seven tonne cylinder of compressed metal had slid of the back of a truck and ended up colliding with a metal barrier on the island.

A section of the roundabout was temporarily closed while the road was made safe and the driver was spoken to by officers about carrying an unsecured load.

Contractor Amey are currently working to remove the large metal cylinder from the island.

Network West Midlands have also warned users of the nine, 241 and 002 bus services, that there might be possible delays on the route due to the incident.

CMPG tweeted pictures from the scene.
