Firefighters tackled a blaze in the kitchen of an address in Erdington Road, Aldridge, after being called at about 11.15am today.

The blaze was caused by food left unattended on a stove.

Fire damage was limited to the pan but the bungalow was left smoke-logged.

Two dogs were also rescued from a bedroom in the property but were not harmed.

Watch commander Mick Goode, from Aldridge fire station, said: "The owner of the property had gone out for five minutes and left some food on the stove. She came back when we were there.

"A neighbour had called us. It could have been a lot worse. I would like to remind people not to leave food cooking unattended."
