Santander has announced the closures of its agency outlets in Burntwood and Lichfield in Staffordshire.

The agencies provide limited banking services under Santander's branding.

Previously the bank had looked to third-party agents, such as insurance brokers or estate agents, to expand its UK network. Now it wants to concentrate operations on its own retail branches offering full banking. In all, 139 agency operations are to shut.

Bank bosses wrote to customers last week advising them of the decision. The branches are due to close between June and September. It is not known how many jobs will be affected.

Customers of the Burntwood agency at Swan Island will go to Four Oaks, Walsall, while Market Street customers in Lichfield will go to Stafford.
