Man killed and two injured in two-car crash

A man has died and two others were taken to hospital following a car crash in Staffordshire.

Emergency services were called to the two-car collision in the Lawnhead area of Stafford, just after 4.30pm yesterday.

The crash, on the B5405 Great Bridgeford to Woodseaves Road, involved a black Vauxhall Agila and a blue Toyota Avensis.

A 19-year-old man from Northamptonshire, who was a passenger in the Vauxhall, was confirmed dead at the scene.

The driver of the Vauxhall, a 19-year-old woman from the Newport area of Shropshire, was treated at the scene for pelvic, neck and chest injuries before being airlifted to the University Hospital where her condition is described as stable.

The driver of the Toyota, a 57-year-old man from Sheffield, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Stafford Hospital for treatment. He was later discharged.

The road remained closed until around 8.45pm while specialist officers from the collision investigation unit examined the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
