Walsall tower block set to become apartments
A prominent high-rise office block in a Walsall town centre could be converted into flats, under new plans.
Eleven floors of Tameway Tower are earmarked to be converted into a total of 100 flats and studio apartments.
Walsall Estates Ltd has lodged the plans with Walsall Council to convert the second to twelfth floors of the building in Bridge Street.
Internal remodelling would create nine flats on most floors. Offices, shop and restaurant units on other floors would not be affected under the plans.
There are also plans to replace windows in the property.
Car parking will be available only for commercial use on the ground floor and basement level, and will be accessed off Freer Street.
Only 15 disabled parking bays will be available for residential use.
The report said: "It is not possible to provide on-site car parking due to the existing parking remaining dedicated to commercial use, however, the proposed development is located within Walsall town centre and is well served by rail and other forms of public transport.
"As well as including good links to public transport the location of the proposed development will also provide the opportunity for individuals to live near their place of work and to therefore reduced commuting, as well as the opportunity for residents to meet their needs locally without the use of a private car."
