The plaque which Richard Dowsett found

Richard Dowsett, a senior ranger at Harrold-Odell Country Park in North Bedfordshire, found a plaque on the banks of the Great Ouse river, and is now trying to trace the owner's family.

The name engraved onto it is Victor George Whereat.

"I had a quick look on the electoral register and it says he lived in Burntwood, " said Mr Dowsett.

He explained: "I was working with a group from Probation Services when we found a memorial plaque among the debris we were clearing off a fence to stop it collapsing."

The plaque itself measures 8.5" x 7" landscape and is bronze-effect mounted on a piece of hardwood.
