The homes were among 6,000 throughout the West Midlands which were cut off due to overnight winds yesterday.

Western Power Distribution said the wind affected some of its overhead network which left small pockets of homes without electricity.

During the power outages, Stella Hayward, from Western Power Distribution, said: "A lot of little repairs are being carried out. We've got a lot of engineers working in the area, and we have drafted extra engineers from unaffected areas.

"We also have helicopters carrying out patrols of the overhead power lines, which is a lot quicker than it would take to walk the route."

Most customers' power was restored by around 2.30pm, with all homes back up and running by around 4.30pm.
