Tipton homes hit by power cut

Around 700 homes in Tipton have been left without power following the devastating weather.

The homes were some of around 6,000 across the whole of the West Midlands which were cut off due to overnight winds.

Western Power Distribution, which supplies the west of England and Wales, said the wind had affected some of its overhead network which left small pockets of homes without electricity.

Stella Hayward, from Western Power Distribution, said: "A lot of little repairs are being carried out.

"We've got a lot of engineers working in the area, and we have drafted extra engineers from unaffected areas.

"We also have helicopters carrying out patrols of the overhead power lines, which is a lot quicker than it would take to walk the route."
