Tributes paid after keen racing driver Thomas Durkin, 26, found dead

A young racing car driver has been found dead at the South Staffordshire motorhome company which he owned.

The body of Thomas Durkin, aged 26, was found at Signature Motorhomes on the A460 Cannock Road in Westcroft near to Wolverhampton on Saturday.

Staffordshire Police were called to the business by West Midlands Ambulance service at 7.45am but officers are not treating his death as suspicious.

Mr Durkin, who lived in Grenville Court in Shifnal with his girlfriend. He was a director at his family's business, Signature Motor Homes and but enjoyed racing cars in his spare time.

Organisers of the Late Model V8 Supercup, a competition Mr Durkin had competed in, released a statement confirming his death.

They added: "Everybody here at the Late Model V8 Supercup sends their Deepest Sympathy to the family of Tom, he will be missed by so many, Rest in Peace Tom."

Yorkshire-based Race Car Direct posted a tribute on Twitter that said:

Others paid tribute to Mr Durkin. Terry Stansfield, who was Mr Durkin's neighbour in Grenville Court, said: "We chatted regularly and he was a friendly, happy person, the best type of neighbour anyone could wish for.

"It's a real shock that he's gone. He will be missed."

And Gordon Barnes wrote:

Signature Motorhomes did not wish to comment.

Staffordshire Police spokeswoman Faye Casey said: "We were called to Signature Motorhomes at 7.45am by colleagues in the ambulance service after a man's body was discovered at the location. The death is not being treated as suspicious and identification has been made."
