Taylor, who made 85 appearances for Walsall between 2002 and 2007 and was part of the League Two title winning side, announced last Friday that he was battling the disease.

Now fans website Vital Walsall has launched a campaign for fans to applaud during the 15th minute of tomorrow's game, with the intention of continuing the gesture at every match until the 30-year-old beats the illness.

Taylor, who wore the number 15 shirt during his time at the Banks's Stadium, now plays for Hednesford Town and scored in the Pitmen's 1-1 draw with Altrincham last weekend, a day after revealing his diagnosis on Twitter.

Hednesford manager Rob Smith said: "It was an emotional day, with his scoring that goal as well. It was the most emotional dressing room I have seen. We are right behind him, and he will get through it."

Taylor tweeted:

The midfielder has also played for Burton Albion, Hereford United, Port Vale and Darlington after being on Wolves' books as a youngster.
