Heavy rain and wind to continue in West Midlands

Forecasters today warned heavy rain and wind would continue to batter the West Midlands as flood warnings remain.

More than 213 flood alerts and 67 flood warnings have been issued across the country by the Environment Agency.

Officials are continuing to monitor the level of the River Severn in Shropshire and in Bewdley, where the B4195 Stourport Road has been closed due to flooding.

It is shut between Westbourne Street and Beales Corner and buses are being diverted via Wribbenhall.

Meanwhile, there are severe flood warnings in the south west. Western Power Distribution said there are 14,000 properties without power in the south west.

David Cameron said that he would be chairing a COBRA meeting today over the recent flooding.
