Footballer reveals cancer diagnosis - and scores the next day
A Hednesford Town footballer has been diagnosed with cancer, it emerged today.
Kris Taylor was diagnosed on Friday – and then went on to score for his team the day later.
The 30-year-old decided to play for the Pitmen at the weekend and scored in the 1-1 draw with Altrincham. He later took to Twitter to describe it as the 'hardest game' he had ever played in. He is set to undergo an operation on Thursday.
The father, from Cannock, started his career with Wolves before being signed by Manchester United as a 14-year-old for £200,000. He has also played for Walsall and Telford.
Supporters are planning a sixth minute applause and song in support of the player during the clash with Solihull on February 15.
Manager Rob Smith said: "It was an emotional day, with his scoring that goal as well. It was the most emotional dressing room I have seen. We are right behind him and he will get through it."
