The couple from Cheslyn Hay were driving on the A460 in the village when they were hit just before 3pm yesterday.

The occupants of the car that hit them fled their car and ran from the scene.

A police helicopter was dispatched to search for them, but they are still at large.

The husband, a father of three believed to be in his 50s, had to be cut free from the car he was travelling in and carried into an ambulance on a spinal board.

He was taken to Walsall Manor Hospital, having lost feeling in one side of his body.

His wife, who was left bruised and shaken by the incident, was also taken to the hospital.

The cars involved were a Citroen Xsara Picasso and a Ford Fiesta.
