Darlaston Town fans are urged to keep raising cash
Football fans were today urged to keep raising money for Darlaston Town FC to secure its future for years to come after bosses revealed the club will return to the league next season.
Darlaston Town FC was pulled from the league after almost 140 years when the club folded last year.
But now a £5,000 target has been passed – meaning the team will compete again from August. But now campaigners are calling on members of the public to keep donating so the club can survive for years to come.
Neil Chambers, a chairman of the club in the 1990s and club historian who is leading the campaign, said: "We have been delighted with the response so far, but we need to keep going so we can start planning plan for a few seasons."
It was a founder member of the Midlands league in 1962 but resigned at the end of last season when the club folded.
It comes as Preparations gather pace for an evening featuring Wolves legends Don Goodman and Steve Daley on April 4 to support the campaign. It takes place at Darlaston Town Hall,
Victoria Road, Darlaston, with tickets £17 or a table of 10 for £150 are available.
Bosses now have two months to decide where the team will play next season. The club's Waverley Road ground needs new fences and wallswork, so talks are being held with Walsall Council to decide whether to the club will stay there or move to a new location.
League officials will assess whether grounds are suitable between April and June, so they have about two months to finalise their plans.
