Striking scene of tranquil at glorious sunset

This striking image of a glorious cool sunset with motionless trees mirrored in a crisp lake reflection depicts a tranquil scene.

But forecasters are predicting it's the calm before the storm – with wind and rain on the way.

Captured by Express & Star photographer Richard Harris, the calm sunset shot was taken over a fishing lake in Shifnal.

But the Met Office though is forecasting brollies will be in order with heavy rain on Friday and Saturday. And gusts of up to 40mph are also anticipated tomorrow afternoon.

In contrast, today will be relatively calm, with bright spells and temperatures of up to 7C (44F). They will drop on Friday to around 2C (35F) before rising to 8C (46F) again on Saturday, although the strong winds will make it feel cooler. The worst of the rain will be on Friday when heavy showers are expected throughout the afternoon and evening.

The Black Country and Staffordshire is set to be very wet and windy on Sunday with lows of 4C (44F) and average of 8C (46F). Forecasters predict the heaviest rain and gales will hit the northwest of the country and rain should clear to sunshine and showers on Monday.
