Biffa runs the Poplars Landfill facility which has been plagued by complaints about foul smells since it began operating in 2011.

Bosses today said there was still space for 5,751245 tons of waste, which means the facility will stay open for at least another 20 years.

The future of the facility is due to be discussed by Cannock Chase Council's environment policy development committee at a meeting today.

Representatives from Biffa are not expected to be at the meeting.

But Biffa spokeswoman Julie Fourcade said today: "The life of the landfill is void related and is dependent upon the volume of inputs to create the required planned restoration profile of the site."
