From Nat King Cole to homegrown hero Robert Plant. From legendary rockers Nirvana to boyband Take That, the city's stages have been blessed with the presence of some of the world's best entertainers.

But it is a little known fact that staff at the Civic Hall have been documenting these performances for the last 75 years, in the form of a collection of signatures and comments from performers who have graced the city's stages. And now the Express & Star has been allowed a rare glimpse into the archives to see what some of the showbiz world's greats and not-so-greats have said about their experiences of performing in the city.

One of the most prized entries is from April 4 1941, when jazz great Nat King Cole played Wolverhampton. He wrote five words; his name and his address 'Hollywood, California'.

Heavy metal god and famed West Midlander Ozzy Osbourne is another to have left his mark, as is the Modfather himself Paul Weller as well Ian Brown of The Stone Roses.
