Fire crews from West Bromwich were called to the crash on Kelvin Way at around 8.15 pm last night.

A team of nine firefighters worked for around 25 minutes to remove the cars roof and free the woman who had suspected spinal injuries.

The driver of the other car - a silver Audi A3 - had already been taken to hospital as a precaution.

The woman who was trapped, was eventually removed and taken to hospital as well.

The road was closed by officers for around two hours while recovery crews began the work of cleaning up the scene.

West Bromwich watch commander Mark Sedgley said: "Two cars had been in a head on collision. It was quite a severe impact and we were forced to take the roof off one of the cars."
