Staffordshire football thug's smoke bomb fine
A Hednesford Town fan has been ordered to pay more than £300 after throwing a smoke bomb into the crowd during a match.
Teenager Daniel Edwards was told he could have killed someone when he threw the device during the game against AFC Telford United.
A court heard he was aiming at the pitch but fell short and it landed among fans.
He could face a ban from attending matches when he attends court again.
Edwards, 19, from Park Road, Norton Canes, appeared before Telford magistrates and admitted throwing a missile at a spectators area.
It happened during the Third Round FA Cup qualifying match on September 28, which Hednesford won 3-1.
Mr Mike Phillips, prosecuting, said: "He lit the smoke bomb and threw it towards the pitch but it landed within the crowd and he was also found to be in possession of a further smoke bomb. He was arrested and admitted the offence."
Mr Steve Cobley, defending Edwards, said: "All of us in our teenage years have done silly things and this is a very silly thing. He knows the court take a dim view on his behaviour."
Edwards was given a £240 fine, ordered to pay £85 costs and a £24 victim surcharge. He will find out at a later hearing if he will be subject to a football banning order.
Mrs Maries Wilkes, chairwoman of the bench, said: "It could have been fatal to somebody. We will never see you in court again, I am quite sure of that."
