The bird was spotted by a member of the public in distress and unable to fly away on an island in a lake at Smethwick Park.

Firefighters from Oldbury attended, along with fire crews from Perry Barr which has a specially-trained rescue unit.

Three firefighters went out on an inflatable raft to get closer to the bird and to free it from the fishing line.

It is now being cared for by animal charity PDSA.
