The sky over the countryside of Staffordshire was lit up with yellows and oranges in this seasonal snap which was taken from Hanney Hay Road in Chasetown, Burntwood.

The colourful photo was captured at around 8am yesterday by Express & Star group chief photographer Tim Thursfield.

It comes as forecasters warn the weather will remain chilly over the next few days.

Temperatures have been predicted to stay between 4C (39.2F) and 9C (48.2F) during the daytime across the West Midlands over the coming week and they could fall as low as 1C (33.8F).

The Met Office says after a cold start to today with some sunshine and showers there will be heavier rain in the region tonight which will give way to a widespread frost and fog patches by tomorrow.

Wednesday and Thursday will see more rain. The Environment Agency has said there are 64 flood warnings and 107 alerts which are still in place across the country in the wake of the bad weather which has plagued the country in recent weeks.

Officials say the risk of flooding will remain in place for days.

Water levels at the River Severn in Worcester remain high but the agency says almost 240,000 homes and businesses across the UK have been protected by flood defences.
