Although not directly affected by the cut, Cineworld at Bentley Bridge suffered 'dips' in its supply, leading to films being stopped.

Eleanor Harris, a 34-year-old teacher from Finchfield, was at Cineworld to watch American Hustle.

She said: "The screen was blank and just the sound of the film was playing.

"When we got fed up and went into the lobby there were hundreds of people milling around and the staff did not seem to know what to do."

Cinema-goers were then offered complimentary tickets for future screenings as compensation for films being cancelled.

Western Power Distribution spokesman Andy Roberts said the problem, believed to have been caused by an underground cable fault, first hit 1,543 customers at 11.20am

Nealy 300 properties had power restored within 15 minutes, another 1,010 in 23 mins and the rest in 35 mins.

Apologising to customers for the disruption, Mr Roberts said Cineworld was on a different circuit to the one directly affected.

But the cut caused fluctuations in supply leading to 'dips' at the cinema.
