Roads surrounding the Stourbridge tip in Birmingham Road were closed by police following the find.

The evacuation took place at around 11am on Saturday and routes were able to re-open again by around 1pm.

The item, thought to be a large bullet, is believed to have been found among rubbish being taken to the tip. Experts from the bomb disposal team were called, although a controlled explosion did not need to take place.

The tip was able to open as normal afterwards although there was a queue of cars trying to get into the site throughout the rest of the afternoon because of the delays. Police said the tip was shut as a precaution but there had been no risk of an explosion or danger to the public.
