The accident happened in Forge Lane just after midday and left the driver trapped in the car for 20 minutes.

She was taken to Sandwell General Hospital after being treated for head lacerations. A female passenger suffered minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital.

Fans travelling to West Brom's FA Cup clash against Crystal Palace were not expected to be affected, as the road had reopened by around 1.30pm.

West Midlands Ambulance spokesman Steve Parry said: "Crews responded to a road traffic collision in Forge Lane.

"The female driver, believed to be in her thirties, was treated for head lacerations. She was trapped in the vehicle for about twenty minutes before being released.

"The patient was given pain relief and immobilised with the use of a neck collar and spinal board before being taken by land ambulance to Sandwell General Hospital."

Elsewhere in the Black Country, Vicarage Road in Stourbridge was blocked off by a three-car crash at around 1pm, although no one was injured. One of the cars was too badly damaged to drive and it blocked the road until recovery teams removed it.
