Three injured in Wednesbury car smash
Three people were hurt, including an elderly woman who suffered a broken leg and head injury, after they were involved in a three-car smash.
Firefighters had to cut the women, believed to be in her 90s, and another man from their Honda car following the crash.
Emergency services were called to Holden Road, in Wednesbury, at 11.08am yesterday.
The road was blocked at its junction with Hydes Road for around an hour.
West Midlands Police said they believe the red Honda CR-V hit a stationary vehicle which was then pushed into a third car.
An elderly woman, believed to be in her 90s, was a backseat passenger in the Honda.
She was taken to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital where she is being treated for a broken leg and a minor head injury.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Chris Kowalik said: "The male driver of the same car had a minor injury.
"His female front-seat passenger was in shock. Both were taken to Sandwell Hospital.
"None of the occupants from the other vehicles involved in the collision were injured."
The smash happened outside Baby World UK.
The shop's owner June Whitehouse said: "I didn't see anything I just heard a loud bang. There are a lot of people in the street and I think someone may have been trapped. It looked a bad one."
Lee Armstrong, aged 47, who has lived in the street for eight years said: "I was in the house and heard this bang and at first I thought it was bin wagon. I went to my upstairs window and saw there had been a crash.
"It's a residential street but it is used as a thoroughfare for Wednesbury. I hope the people involved are ok."
Fire crews from West Bromwich and Wednesday attended and the incident was declared over at noon.
Watch commander Trevor Parkes, from West Bromwich fire station, said: "Two people were trapped as a direct result of the accident."
Police have appealed for an witnesses to call Sgt Rogers on 101.
