A 24-year-old driver travelling northbound between junction two at Oldbury and one at West Bromwich crashed just after 9am yesterday, sending debris, including the engine, across all three lanes of the southbound carriageway.

The woman's car ended up in the inside lane of the northbound side. She was taken to Sandwell Hospital for precautionary checks but was not seriously hurt.

The Highways Agency confirmed all three lanes southbound were closed, with traffic passing in the hard shoulder, while one lane was closed northbound, while the debris was cleared.

The crash caused 20-minute delays in both directions, and as far as J9 for Wednesbury.
